Great Divide Old Ruffian

Claudia: At first it's hard to taste anything but extreme bitterness. There's a moderate to low amount of carbonation, and it makes me long for lemons. However, despite all this, it still remains a likable beer: full-bodied, metallic, and musky. It tastes highly alcoholic and smells like bread toasting slowly. I like this beer but I'm not sure why. Definitely not a casual beer. 7/10

Jay: Smells like burnt caramel and cooking dinner. Huge bitter hop presence on the tongue upon first sip, which is quickly taken over by a malty, sweet, slightly astringent taste. Mouthfeel is smooth and thin. I'm left with sweet maltiness, a large dose of hops, and a nice, moderate alcohol burn. I can taste and feel the 10.2% ABV for sure. Probably the best barleywine I've tasted; then again, I've only ever had a few. 8.5/10
