Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye

Today we're tasting Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye, an IPA that Jay recently picked up at Bestway. We're pretty sure this is the first rye beer we've ever had. Incidentally, this is Claudia's first week of winter break, and to commemorate, she scalded her hand while trying to make tea:

Claudia: This beer reminds me of a shipyard -- it's like nature but with, like, metal paths going through it. Very bitter, full, and extremely hoppy. I could easily live without this beer. Please pass the half-sours. 5/10

Jay: Prominent herbal, woody smell. Hoppy to the point of tasting perfume-y; frankly, it's a little too hoppy for me. There's a sourness beneath this beer's bitter finish, which I guess is the rye coming through. Alcohol taste is well-masked. I'm glad I tried it, but I'm not crazy about this one. 7/10
